This was stated by Ved Prakash Upadhyaya, district youth services and sports officer, here on Wednesday. He said the block-level games would be held from August 2 to 19 at different places of the district.

The district-level games would be held at Bijheri kaswa of Hamirpur on August 28 and 29.PYKKA aims to encourage sports and games in rural areas through annual competitions at block and district levels. Through PYKKA, the central government is helping states in promoting sports at the grassroots level, which they have not been able to achieve on their own so far due to severe resource constraints.

It will also deepen and widen the seedbed of sporting talent, leading to better performances by sportspersons in national and international events.

The sports officer said that as per the decision of the education department, students of schools would also be eligible to take part in the PYKKA games.

Earlier, they were not allowed to take part in the games and this had led to resentment among people and students living in villages. They had demanded that they should also be allowed to take part in these games.
