POLITICAL INTERFERENCE in the normal functioning of academic institutions and universities across the State had resulted in the decline of the standard of education, said Dr Rajnish Shukla, national executive member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Citing the condition of Lucknow University, he said the LU Vice-Chancellor had been working as an agent of the UP Governor. “The decision of the V-C to close the varsity sine die was ridiculous because the situation did not demand such action,” he said and alleged that earlier, the V-C had cancelled the students’ union election under the pressure of the State Government.

He said the present state of universities across UP would be raised at the proposed annual convention of the ABVP at Hyderabad from December 25 to 28.
Dr Rajnish Shukla said the paradigm shift in the field of education due to the Union Government’s offer to overseas universities to set up their academic institutions in India was dangerous for the progress of Indian universities. “Vast discussions would also be held on this issue during the four-day convention there,” he added.

The state vice-president of ABVP Vyas Muni Rai and city president Shailesh Kumar Mishra said about 500 members and office-bearers of ABVP across the State would participate in the convention.

“The convention would be focused on disseminating a sense of social harmony among the students across the country,” they said. They said that the issue of social harmony would be discussed in the convention and different programmes of the ABVP would also be chalked out there.

State vice-president of ABVP Vyas Muni Rai said besides discussion on several issues, a formal swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected national president of ABVP Ram Naresh Singh would also be held.
