Rahul supports mother's decision to step down
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who once declared, "My mother is my hero," on Thursday, said that both he and his sister Priyanka backed Sonia Gandhi's move to step down in the wake of opposition attack in the office of profit controversy.
"She (Sonia) told both of us that she would be resigning. We too felt that she should resign... If she has made a decision, she acts on it," he said talking to reporters at a village in Amethi.
Rahul, who did not accompany his mother two days back in her first trip to Rai Bareli after her resignation, arrived in Amethi on Wednesday.
While travelling down to Amethi from Lucknow, he stopped at many places, walking into mud shacks and meeting people.
Visitors, mostly villagers, lined at his guesthouse in Amethi, waiting patiently for hours to meet their leader.
Gandhi, who spent more than four hours receiving visitors at his guesthouse, also drove down to a dalit cluster of shacks that was gutted in a fire.
He distributed relief kits to the people whose houses were gutted in the blaze on Wednesday.
