Rai murder case: Accused produced in court

JAILED SAMAJWADI Party MP Afzal Ansari, Independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari and their brother-in-law, Ejaz Ansari were produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at Ghazipur on Saturday in connection with the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and six others on November 29 last year.

JAILED SAMAJWADI Party MP Afzal Ansari, Independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari and their brother-in-law, Ejaz Ansari were produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at Ghazipur on Saturday in connection with the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and six others on November 29 last year.

CJM Pramod Kumar had ordered for the transfer of case to the court of the sessions judge. Now, the next hearing of the case would be held in the sessions court on June 8.

Afzal, Mukhtar and Ejaz were brought from the district jail Ghazipur to the court amid a posse of security personnel. Elaborate security arrangements had been made in and around the court premises for the security of the accused.

BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and six others accompanying him in a Tata Sumo had been shot dead when some men equipped with sophisticated arms had opened indiscriminate firing on them in Mohammadabad legislative constituency in Ghazipur on then afternoon of November 29.

All of them had succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

The case was being investigated by the STF and police jointly.

Meanwhile, a bench of the Allahabad High Court had also ordered for a CBI inquiry to investigate the case.

Widow of Rai and a BJP MLA from the same constituency, Alka Rai and her brother-in-law, Ram Narain Rai had urged the court for a CBI inquiry for impartial investigation.
