“The motto of the department is to enhance revenue through credibility, transparency and efficiency amongst tax payers. Tax evasion would be checked strictly without harassing genuine tax payers.

Vigilance teams of the taxation department would pay surprise visits to check-posts, across the state he said.

He said these teams would check whether the officials appointed on these checkposts had actually checked the documents of the passing trucks carrying goods and taxed the vehicles or not.

Talking to media persons on Tuesday, Chandramauli said tax evasion was a continuous process for which government has adopted a lot of measures with formation of several mobile enforcement units.

He said high collection with simplification of taxation was on the top priority of government.

Speaking over the functioning of his department, he said it had registered a growth of 28 per cent last year with collection of Rs 11800 crore against total revenue of Rs 19000 crore in the State.

The target of Rs 14800 crore has been fixed for the current financial year. The growth of 30 per cent has been fixed for this year against 28 per cent of last year.

He said the government had no plan to set up new check posts in the State and efforts were on to equip the existing check posts with modern facility of computerisation. Taxation has to be made transperant, he added.
