Rains in UP affect many villages

Over 120 villages in eastern Uttar Pradesh have been affected as water levels of many rivers continue to rise due to heavy rains, sources in the district administration said on Monday.

The river Rapti is flowing just 24 cm below the danger mark while Gorakhpur, Bansi, Balrampur and Rigauli are some of the worst affected areas.

Sources said more than 37,000 people in 120 villages have have been affected. The highway connecting Gorakhpur to Lucknow has been damaged due to torrential rains.
