Rains lashed many places in the northern region for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, causing mercury to fall by several degrees.

The city was lashed by sharp showers in the morning and overcast conditions persisted as the day progressed. Many low-lying areas were flooded with water.
Rains also lashed Ambala, Hisar, Panchkula and Kalka in Haryana, the Meteorological Department said in Chandigarh.
Amritsar (20 mm) received heavy rains, giving much relief to the people from the sweltering conditions which had been prevailing there for the past fortnight.
Ludhiana, which was also lashed by heavy rains, recorded 23.4 mm rainfall.
In Himachal Pradesh, rains lashed Shimla, Sundernagar, Bhuntar, Pandoh, Rampur and Kahu. Nagrota Surien and Kasol in the state received 45 mm and 44.7 mm rainfall respectively.
