Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau cremated

The mortal remains of Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau, who died due to massive heart attack in New Delhi on Monday, were consigned to flames at her native Kholapur village in Deoli taluk of Wardha district of Maharashtra, today.

The mortal remains of Rajasthan Governor Prabha Rau, who died due to massive heart attack in New Delhi on Monday, were consigned to flames at her native Kholapur village in Deoli taluk of Wardha district of Maharashtra, about 90 kms from Nagpur on Tuesday.

Her grandson Sahil Tokas, son of Charulata Rau-Tokas, her son-in-law Kamlesh Morarji and nephew Ranjeet Kamble, who is Maharashtra Minister of State for Water Works, lit the funeral pyre amidst chanting of mantras and tearful eyes.

Prabha Rau's close friend, Uttranchal Governor Margret Alva, her party colleagues-Mohsina Kidwai and Mabel Rebello, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, his Rajasthan counterpart Ashok Gahlot paid tributes to Prabha Rau.

Some of Maharashtra Ministers, Congress leaders and former BJP MP Suresh Waghmare among those who paid floral tributes to Rau.

Earlier Rau's body, wrapped in tricolour, was brought by a special IAF flight from Delhi at the IAF base at city airport.

An IAF helicopter took the body to her village. Top officials from the district administration and police were also present on the occasion.
