The pilot of the helicopter in which Union Agriculture Minister Rajnath Singh was on an election campaign, died when his head was chopped off by its rear rotor on Saturday.
Singh was on his way to Nainital to address a couple of public meetings after he had addressed a meeting at Jaspur in NainitalLok Sabha constituency.
Singh told Hindustan Times on telephone from Udham Singh Nagar, that they were all seated in the helicopter and were ready for take off when someone noticed smoke emanating from the rear of the craft.
One of the pilots, Col. Anil Nagra, immediately jumped out of the helicopter to check the fault. But he was dragged into the revolving rotor and got his head chopped off, Singh said. He died instantaneously.
The incident took place when Singh was addressing an election rally at Jaspur in Udham Singh Nagar. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
