“The mother this morning wrote to the superintendent of police, giving her consent for medical examination of the girl,” Aires Rodrigues, the lawyer representing the mother, said.
The police had decided to review the case as the girl’s statement was not forthcoming and she was also reluctant to get herself medically examined, despite the efforts of NGO and psychiatrists.
“The letter to the SP clearly states that the mother has no objection to the medical examination. She has also said that since the offences are grave, the police investigation should be expedited in the case,” Rodrigues said.
The police have booked Rohit, 21, on charges of raping, outraging the modesty of, abetting a crime and sending lewd messages to the 14-year-old German girl. The complaint was registered on October 2. The mother’s statement was recorded two days later. “Even seven days after the statement, the girl was unwilling to come forward. This was posing difficulties in proceeding with the case,” SP (North) Bosco George had said earlier.
