‘Rebirth day’ for dead men

Over 450 people, declared “dead” in government records, on Wednesday celebrated their punarjanm diwas (rebirth day) and sent a memorandum to the President demanding compensation.

Over 450 people, declared “dead” in government records, on Wednesday celebrated their punarjanm diwas (rebirth day) and sent a memorandum to the President demanding compensation.

Under the banner of Mritak Sangh, 470 members declared “dead” in government records across the state converged in the city to highlight their plight.

“We have submitted a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil, seeking a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each for the harassment we have undergone ...,” President of the Sangh Lal Bihari ‘Mritak’ said.

Bihari claimed after he was declared dead in government records in 1976, he constituted the Sangh and associated people having a similar plight.
