Recite Chalisa to protest terror, says Singhal

THE VISHWA Hindu Parishad, along with other Hindu organisations, has decided to organise recitation of Hanuman Chalisa at temples in all villages, towns, and cities in protest against the Varanasi blasts.

This should be done by people as per their convenience, either on Tuesday or Saturday, said VHP leader Ashok Singhal here on Thursday Commenting on the Varanasi bomb blasts, he said, attacks on Hindus, their culture and religion will not be tolerated. “It has become necessary that we express our anger in a peaceful manner,” he told mediapersons.
He thanked people for observing a peaceful bandh in protest against the blasts and killing of innocent persons on the premises of Sankat Mochan Temple in Varanasi. The temple in which the blast took place was founded by Goswami Tulsi Das, and as such, all temples should hold the recitation of Hanuman Chalisa in protest against the attack, he said.
Referring to recent protests by Muslims against the Danish cartoonist who made caricatures of Prophet Mohammed, he said tacit support to them by the Mulayam Singh Government gave a fillip to terrorists.
He called upon the people to be prepared to defend themselves against all such attacks.
He said as of now the country was in the midst of a 1946-like situation. Coming down heavily on the Central Government, he demanded a ban on all madarsas in the country.
He claimed there were atleast one lakh AK 47 rifles with those who are directly connected with the ISI. He likened this situation with the pre- Independence era in which Britishers had armed “some people in this country to carry out attacks on Hindus”.
He said a repeat of what happened in Gujarat was most likely to happen elsewhere if Mulayam Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and Congress president Sonia Gandhi did not deal with the situation with an iron hand.
He said a situation was slowly developing in which people would vote on the call of the sants. He, however, parried the question when asked as to who were those Hindu parties or organisations and how many of them had lent support to the VHP.
