Sumedha Belokar, attached as Superintendent of state-run child remand and rehabilitation home, was placed under suspension on Thursday after the Women and Child welfare department's report in this regard.

Director of Women and Child development department Sanjiv Gadkar had initiated inquiry after around dozen cases of escapes registered during her tenure of eight months as the Superintendent.

The situation had turned worse as three juvenile delinquents, arrested for petty thefts, managed to flee from the remand home in Panaji outskirts, thrice.

Twice they were arrested but they have managed to remain away from the police during their third escape, reported a fortnight back.

Women and child development department director Sanjiv Gadkar had told PTI that the inquiry report in the frequent escapes was forwarded to the concerned minister Ravi Naik.

Sources confirmed that the action was initiated after the minister recommended that the stringent measures should be taken to nail the escapes which pose embarrassment to the government.
