They demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and warned of an agitation in support of their demands.
The committee convened a meeting at Islamia Inter College in this connection. Presiding over the meeting, Mutwalli Syed Irshad Ahmad and Shamsuddin said it was not a simple incident of theft. The Imambara Mian Sahib was a historical place, which should be given its due importance, but laxity of the administration in dealing with the sensitive case was highly condemnable, they said. They said the administration should not succumb to political pressure and miscreants should be arrested.
Mutwalli Nabi Raza Ansari and Nawabul Hasan of Askerganj said the incident of theft had generated resentment among the minority community members and it would be better for the police administration to work out the case. Mutwalli of Bindtola Mohammad Nasir Ali said the incident was very shocking. Mutwalli of Imambara Estate Farrukh Adnan Shah spoke to the district administration and was assured that miscreants would be arrested in 72 hours. But, it had been a month since the theft and police had failed to work out the case.
Qadir Ahmad, Waheed Khan, MA Khan, Jalil, Sabir Khan and others said the Imambara Committee would organise a huge demonstration at the district magistrate’s office on May 4, if the miscreants were not arrested.
