Residents block road to protest outages, commuters suffer
Irked over poor power supply, hundreds of Khandsa residents took to the streets on Friday, blocking the Khandsa road for more than two hours, causing a massive traffic jam.
Irked over poor power supply, hundreds of Khandsa residents took to the streets on Friday, blocking the Khandsa road for more than two hours, causing a massive traffic jam.
The pile-up affected traffic movement of other roads as well and kept the traffic police officials on their toes.
Several office-goers were stranded for hours and reported late to work.
“Traffic came to a standstill. I was stuck in the jam for more than 45 minutes. I was late to office,” said Rohan Verma, an executive.
The residents had allegedly held a meeting in Om Nagar on Thursday night and planned the demonstration.
Khandsa is facing a power shortage for the last many months but on Thursday, the situation was unbearable with the outage lasting more than 10 hours.
The traffic police, meanwhile, said they took control of the situation after they got information and there was no chaos.
“We reached the spot as soon as we got information about the protest march. No clash or violence took place during the agitation,” said a traffic official.
