“After getting the contract on April 1, the contractor sacked 429 workers saying he would keep only workers from outside the district. When we complained about it, he claimed to be chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's nephew and said could do anything,” Pooja Singh, the volunteer, said.

“The contractor misbehaved with a woman volunteer and the RWA president when he took up the issue with him. We want him to be removed immediately. Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) estate officer Puspinder Chauhan has assured us that action will be taken as soon as possible,” said Col.Ratan Singh, president, Joint Action Forum of Residents' Associations (Jafra).

Chauhan, who reached the spot, asked for a week's time to sort out the issue with the contractor after which if improvement is not shown on his part, his contract will be cancelled.

Meanwhile, all 429 workers have also been reinstated. The RWAs are planning to conduct a joint meeting and present a memorandum to the CM to look into the matter.
