The protesters, including women and children, gathered at the work site on Sunday night hearing the sound of trucks and workmen.

The residents even entered into a scuffle with the labourers. They later called up the police and told the latter about their intention to block the work. The 11KV line is being put up for the special economic zone.

According to residents, the high tension line poses a threat to their safety.

The residents said the special economic zone employees had installed several electric poles a week ago close to their houses.

“Most of these poles have been put up in a haphazard and dangerous manner. We fear they may fall during rainy season,” said Nirmala Sharma, a resident of the area.
