The Speaker has refused to accept the resignations of the four members -- Kishan Singh Sangwan, Rajendrasinh Rana, Ananth Kumar Hegde and Virendra Kumar, Lok Sabha sources said.

He has written to Leader of Opposition LK Advani suggesting that the members may be advised not to pursue the matter, the sources said.

The Speaker, asked recently about the threats by BJP MPs to bring a no-confidence motion against him, had remarked "I have nothing to say. It is their right. If they want to move it, they can move it".

Disagreeing with suggestions that he was responsible for a confrontation between the Treasury benches and the Opposition, Chatterjee had also emphasised that he had given the opposition scope for having their say, given the number of adjournment motions and other such devices allowed by him.
