The 35-year-old star stuck up his middle finger while singing his song Asignatura Pendiente that includes the words, "a photo with Bush". His gesture prompted cheers from thousands of fans.

Martin, who sang and danced with Bush at his 2001 Inaugural Ball, had changed his opinion about the President following the Iraq war.

Now that his behaviour at the show has sparked a controversy, Martin has defended his action by repeating his criticism of Bush’s policies.

"My convictions of peace and life go beyond any government and political agenda and as long as I have a voice onstage and offstage, I will always condemn war and those who promulgate it," Contactmusic quoted him as saying.
