KESCo’s indifferent attitude could be gauged by the fact that more than half a dozen areas of the city went without power till Friday evening.
Infuriated over the indifferent attitude of the KESCo officials, anti-KESCo demonstrations were staged in several parts of the city. Activists of the BJP Mahila Morcha staged a demonstration at the Barra substation. They also ransacked the substation.
Gunjan Vihar, under the Barra substation had been facing power crisis for the past ten days due to a transformer lying defunct. Despite several complaints lodged by the local residents, the KESCo officials had not replaced transformer.
Up set over the indifferent attitude of the KESCo officials, activists of the BJP Mahila Morcha gheraoed the Barra substation. They ransacked the Barra substation and also locked the main gates of the office.
Members of the Kanpur Udyog Vyapar Mandal staged a demonstration at Ghanta Ghar and burnt the effigy of State government. Activists of the Vyapar Mandal criticised the State government for the ongoing power crisis in the city. Senior leader of the Vyapar Mandal Gyanesh Mishra flayed the State government for long hours of power cuts.
Members of the Vyapar Mandal also flayed the State government for closure of shops at 8 pm.
“Majority of the customers prefer to remain confined to their houses due to heat. While in the evening there is no power supply,” Gyanesh Mishra stated.
Traders would suffer financial loss if they were forced to close their establishments by 8 pm, Mishra added. The traders also burned an effigy of the State government.
People also staged anti-KESCo demonstrations in several other parts of the city. It included P Road, Chamanganj, Jawahar Nagar, Beconganj, Talaq Mahal and Nala Road. Agitators blocked the main roads in their respective areas, which disrupted the traffic.
