Rs 26 crore given under urban water supply scheme

A total of Rs 26.25 crore has been distributed among various states and local bodies to provide water supply facilities in towns having a population of less than 20,000.

A total of Rs 26.25 crore has been distributed among various states and local bodies under the Accelerated Urban Water Supply Projects Scheme in March with an aim to provide water supply facilities in towns having a population of less than 20,000.

The scheme, which was started in 1994 to extend financial support to state governments and local bodies of towns having a population of less than 20,000, currently covers a total of 2151 towns all over India, an official release said here today.

While Uttar Pradesh gets the largest share of Rs 865.97 lakh, Maharashtra follows with 279.73 lakh, and Chattisgarh gets the smallest share of Rs 29.09 lakh, the release added.

So far, the Urban Development Ministry has approved 883 schemes at the cost of Rs 1141 crore, out which 298 schemes have been completed.
