Rs 420 crore to set up schools of specialties
IN ORDER to promote research activities in various disciplines, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) has introduced a new scheme with a total outlay of Rs 420 crore. All proposals under the scheme would be implemented within a period of seven years from now.
IN ORDER to promote research activities in various disciplines, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) has introduced a new scheme with a total outlay of Rs 420 crore. All proposals under the scheme would be implemented within a period of seven years from now.
The prestigious scheme envisaged the setting up of at least five schools of specialties with the inclusion of different departments in them.
The first school of Basic Natural Sciences would have the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Students of this school would have ample opportunities for research work in all these subjects under one roof.
The second would be the School of Engineering, comprising the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, Computer Science, Chemical and Materials and Matter Engineering.
The School of Humanity and Social Sciences would promote research activities in humanities. It would club the Departments of Psychology, Sociology, Economics and Linguistics.
The School of Vocational Disciplines would have the assimilation of the Departments of Management, Designing, Fine Arts and Media to provide comprehensive opportunities to research scholars.
Finally, the School of Inter-Disciplinary Programme would have all professional courses to give exhaustive knowledge to the students.
The agenda for setting up all five schools has already been finalised and work on the unique projects would soon be launched according to the sources of the IIT-K.
It is to be noted that IIT-K is the first Technological Institute in the country, which had taken lead in creating research opportunities and improving educational standards at the Institute.
