The incident happened in Muhana area, police said adding the body of Suman Singh, who burnt herself to death, had been sent for post mortem.

Kishore Singh's refusal to oblige his brother-in-law who demanded Rs 500 from him, sparked heated arguments between Suman and her husband, police said.

Later, Kishore allegedly thrashed Suman which prompted her to take the extreme step, they said.

Suman took out Rs five lakh from the almirah, threw bundles of currency notes on the floor and set these on fire.

As the money went up in smoke, she poured kerosene over her body and set herself alight, police said.

Recently, Kishore Singh had sold some property for Rs five lakh and gave the money to his wife to keep it safe in the almirah, police said.
