RS, VP polls: Rich in the ring, poor out

IT IS evident from the properties, jewellery and cash owned by those who filed nominations for Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Parishad seats here on Thursday that there was no scope for the poor to contest, as only the rich and mighty could afford to ‘manage’ votes.

Sudhansu, who filed nomination as an independent candidate for Rajya Sabha, has Rs 25,000 while his wife has Rs 20,000 and he has no vehicle in his name.

However, both he and his wife have bank deposit of Rs 27.58 lakh while his son and daughter have Rs 2.31 lakh. Sudhanshu and his wife Rubina have bonds, debentures and shares worth Rs 38.61 lakh.

His wife has jewellery worth Rs 3.95 lakh while value of his own rings is Rs 68,000, according to details submitted by him along with his nomination papers.

He has properties worth Rs 1.07 crores in Mumbai and Delhi.

Sudhanshu, an industrialist, has been president of the Delhi Students’ Union. His proximity with senior BJP leaders, particularly with Pramod Mahajan is well known.

Ashok Dhavan, the BJP nominee for Vidhan Prishad and his wife have Rs 2.25 lakh and their bank balance, including lakhs in banks, bonds, debenture, shares NSCs and the LIC, is worth Rs 49.84. He has gold and diamond worth Rs 18.47 lakhs and owner of properties worth Rs 1.81 crore.

Senior BJP leader and sitting Rajya Sabha member Kalraj Mishra, who also filed nomination and his wife have Rs 54,400 and bank deposits worth Rs 10,76 lakhs.

He has a 1999 model Ambassador car and has gold and jewellery worth Rs 5.75 lakh. Value of properties owned by him and his wife in Ghazipur, Lucknow, NOIDA and Jaunpur is Rs 53.95 lakh.

He has shown a gross income of Rs 3.57 lakhs on which he has paid Income Tax of Rs 24, 028.

The total cash with Ramapati Ram, another BJP nominee for Vidhan Parishad and his wife is Rs 19,000 and they have Rs 18,0051 in their bank accounts and they have properties worth Rs 36.30 lakh in Gorakhpur and Deoria.

Vinay Katiyar, another Rajya Sabha contestant on the BJP ticket, has Rs 50,000 and has deposits worth Rs 16.36 lakh in banks.

He has share in his family properties of a cold storage and a rice mill worth
Rs 31.83 lakh. Katiyar is the owner of properties worth Rs 13.05 lakh in Kanpur and properties worth Rs 66 lakh in Ayodhya and Lucknow.

Ram Naresh Rawat, a BJP nominee for the Vidhan Parishad and his wife have Rs 75,000 and property worth Rs 35 lakh.
