Delhi boy Sahil Gupta’s priorities in life are very clear. Unlike most youngsters who stumble into Bollywood by default or by accident, Sahil has been pretty focused about doing films right from his school days. In fact he started off as an actor way back in school (Modern School, Vasant Vihar) doing the odd school play and moving on to George and Ivan Pulinkala’s musical Jungle Book before going on to do a course in television media from the University of Westminster.

“I even did some odd roles during my stay in the UK but I was so homesick that I came back and joined a graduation course in Sri Venkateswara College instead,” points out Sahil.

Being in Delhi also meant he could work with the likes of Vivek Mansukhani and Sita Raina, train with Ashley Lobo’s Danceworx. Until of course he landed a role in the made-in-Delhi flick, Let’s Enjoy, co-starring Ashish Choudhry and Arzoo Govitrikar. “Most of the cast of Let’s Enjoy is from theatre and some of them were people I knew. I play the role of a 19 year old college kid in Let’s Enjoy and it’s a role that I could relate to easily. Every youngster goes through the stage when he’s curious about sex and my character in the film is someone who tumbles into an unsavoury situation because of his inquisitive nature. It’s just the kind of launchpad that every newcomer enjoys,”elaborates Sahil.

And that’s not all. Even before hits the screens, Sahil has been roped in to play one of the lead roles in the sequel, : “It’s about three boys who have a Indian rock band and end up in Goa. I played drum in school and I like the role that I play in the film.” For Sahil, has been a “learning experience” and has “made me even more confident that this is a job that I want to do.”

Sahil insists that his parents had no problems about his starry aspirations. “I still have time to look after our sea-food restuarant, Ploof (in Lodi Road) and I am serious about my acting ambitions. Though some years down I’d like to be actively involved with social work and perhaps direct a film.”
