A BRILLIANT hat-trick by Salman Khan helped Khanuja Cricket Club to rout Indore Colts by an innings and 187 runs in the Padam Shashi Under-17 cricket tournament organised by IDCA at Emerald Heights International School today.

Resuming at the overnight score of 24 for 2, Indore Colts started losing their wickets at regular intervals, which gave Khanuja Cricket Club an upper hand and the bowlers never looked back and bowled brilliantly.

Pawan Sharma with 37 was the highest scorer for their team with four boundaries followed by Ankit Yadav who scored 25. The rest of the batsmen failed to cope with the accurate bowling of Nakul Bhaveshi and Ankur Palanpure and were bundled out for 127.

Nakul bowled brilliantly to capture four wickets for 36 while Ankur Palanpure after scoring a brilliant century bowled well to capture three wickets for a meagre 18 runs.

Indore Colts after follow on, once again failed to put up any semblance of resistance, except for Pawan Sharma who batted brilliantly to score a classy 67 with 11 fours. The rest of the batsmen fell like ninepins.

In the second innings, Salman Khan was the wrecker-in-chief as he took a hat-trick as he scalped 4 wickets for just 19 runs while Ankit Dane who had also scored a century for his team took two wickets without conceding a run.

Khanuja won the match by an innings and 187 runs. Ankur Palanpure’s brilliant all round performance 176 and 3 for 18 helped him to bag the Man of the Match award.

Khanuja has to face Vijay Club in their last league encounter to decide for qualification into the super league. The final match between Khanuja and Vijay Club would be crucial, as Vijay Club has to win the match by an outright margin to take their points’ tally to 11. Even if Vijay Club wins the match on the first innings lead they are out of the contest as Khanuja has already pocketed 10 points and Vijay Club would end up with 9 points.

In other groups Indore Sports and CCI have already qualified for the Super League in groups ‘B’ and ‘C’ respectively. There are three groups in the tournament.

Outright win gets four points, first innings lead win gets two points and innings victory gets five points respectively.
