And thus, tapping into the pulse of the male populace, the phenomenon of trend salons is fast catching on. Owners have come out of their traditional job of haircut and shaving to modernised techniques, professional salons and various amenities.
Talking to the Hindustan Times owner of Anwar’s, a well-maintained salon at Arya Nagar locality said that beauty consciousness matters a lot. The consciousness to look good is now not only limited to girls or for that matter to boys only. From school-going boys to an old man, every one wants to look more handsome and smart.
Anwar who does his work blindfolded, said customers want branded cosmetic items during treatment and they come to salons with adequate time from their busy schedule. Agreeing on the fact about soothing environment, Anwar said apart from general treatment, customers need soothing environment too, as a result of which, “We have made arrangements of audio-video system available for customers.”
Equipped with modern amenities, Swarup Nagar located renowned saloon Mendor’s manager Preeti says that apart from general services to customers, the salon believes in establishing cordial and family relations with customers.
Knowing well the cut-throat competition in the market, she says the salon treats customers like guests and thus, they don’t feel the pain of paying a hefty price and getting nothing in return.
She says Mendor’s also provides weekly and monthly packages during weddings for grooms and other men of the family. To avoid any disrepute to the salon, Mendor’s has a staff of professionals to look after its customers. Apart from general amenities, staff behavior and etiquette matters a lot that establishes a good rapport for long time, she added.
Passing 47 years in this profession Haji Mushtaq Ali, who claims to own first men’s salon in Kanpur, says that in the 21st century, beauty consciousness has taken a rapid leap among males. Moreover they are aware of the fact that looks matter a lot for success.
Ali, the owner of Ridder, another renowned salon at Somdutt Plaza Ali says that good looks are not merely confined to haircuts and shaving, but due to the effect of western culture, males cannot keep themselves from changing fashion trends.
This has forced salons in the city to give more and more facilities to customers.
