Satyam's automotive centre opens in Detroit

Satyam Computer Services Ltd is launching an automotive development centre in Detroit to consolidate its base in the automotive industry.
The Automotive Center of Excellence (ACE), built over a 6000 sqft area and houses over 50 engineers, would focus on automotive industry specific solution building and R&D, leveraging, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.
Also, the ACE would be centred around automotive engineering solutions, real time manufacturing, supply chain, automotive enterprise solution and digital manufacturing.
With the launch of the digital manufacturing practice, the company is looking to tap the market worth multibillion dollars by 2009 for digital manufacturing software and services.
Digital manufacturing leverages IT to collaboratively develop the manufacturing plan and manufacturing equipment, simultaneously with the product.
"Traditionally, automotive and manufacturing sectors have been one of the early adopters of technology and we are seeing a rapid growth in this Industry in the last few years. With service offering requirements centered around high-end and emerging technologies - the stronghold of Satyam, we feel it is the right time and location to enhance our focus in the automotive space where we enjoy a strong leadership position," Satyam founder and chairman Ramalinga Raju said.
The chief automotive solutions architect for the development centre will be Kenneth Taormina, who will facilitate the design of high-end industry solutions in the manufacturing and automotive vertical and foster a close relationship with Satyam's global customers.
