Millions of Indians who were hoping that Sandeep Sawant's widely lauded Shwaas would make it to the Oscars were grossly disappointed as the film failed to figure in the final list of nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

After the announcement when a TV channel approached the director to know his reactions, he said nonchalantly, "it’s a competition and it happens but I am happy for the Marathi Cinema."

However, India's 'Little Terrorist' was nominated in the short film categories.

The Aviator, Martin Scorsese's film biography of Howard Hughes, received 11 Oscar nominations on Tuesday, beating out Clint Eastwood's boxing tale Million Dollar Baby and Marc Forster's drama Finding Neverland, which received seven nominations each for the 77th annual Academy awards.

All three films were nominated for best picture, along with Ray Charles biography Ray and comedy Sideways.
