School students to get lessons on law

The district legal services authority (DLSA) will launch a special programme to teach school students the basics of law. The initiative will cover only government schools — around 115 in Gurgaon district.

The district legal services authority (DLSA) will launch a special programme to teach school students the basics of law. The initiative will cover only government schools — around 115 in Gurgaon district.

As per guidelines issued by the national legal services authority and the Haryana state legal services authority, the DLSA will help school authorities constitute legal literacy clubs involving students of class 9.

The school principal will be the chairman of the group which will comprise around 15 students and one teacher.

The students will be made aware of laws on issues of women sexual harassment, Hindu Marriage Act, Muslim marriage, Indian Christian Marriage Act, contract labor, Motor Vehicle Accident claims, SC/ST acts and family courts.

Besides, students will taught about dowry laws, child marriage prohibition acts, bonded labor, minors' right, minimum wages act, factory act and consumer protection act.
