The tragedy occurred when the scientist, SK Chelani and wife, Chanda had gone to settle a domestic feud between their maid servant Nanda and her husband, Sridhar Mule at latter's Wadi residence.

It was said that Nanda (32), who was working as a maid servant at the house of Chelanis, had a dispute with her husband, Sridhar Mule. Sridhar was learnt to be harassing his wife and their 14-year old daughter Shalini. As a result, both used to quarrel frequently, forcing Nanda to stay back.

Nanda had also a doubt that his husband had developed illicit relations with a woman at Gondkhairi. Nanda often requested Chelani couple to help settle her domestic troubles. Chelani and Chanda later agreed to intervene and went to Wadi on Wednesday evening to pacify Sridhar. The decision, however, turned out to be a fatal one for the Chelani couple.

Sridhar, not only attacked Chelani, but also attacked his wife, Nanda, scientist's wife Chanda and his two children. All were seriously injured following the attack and were rushed to a private nursing home, where Chelani was declared dead. His wife, Chanda was reportedly to be very serious, police said.

The city police arrested Sridhar this afternoon.
