The cross-examination was initiated after Sessions Court Judge S Lal, during a hearing on August 16, gave the Talwars "last opportunity" to cross-examine the witness.

Talwars' counsel GP Thareja examined Mahapatra with questions related to his qualifications and various procedures adopted during forensic examination.

But since Thareja had to leave post-lunch, the examination could not be completed. The CBI moved an application in this regard later.
