Security beefed up in Bangalore for R-Day

Over 2,000 police personnel have been deployed in and around the city.

Bangalore, which faced a terror attack recently at the Indian Institute of Science, geared up for the Republic Day celebrations by enhancing security and deploying over 2,000 police personnel in and around the city.

Around 1,500 police personnel, six Deputy Commissioners of Police, 17 assistant commissioners of police and 40 inspectors have been posted in around the parade ground, the venue of the main celebrations, Additional Commissioner of Police, HC Kishore Chandra said here on Wednesday.

In addition to this, squads of the Karnataka State Reserve Police Force, Quick Reaction Teams and commandos have been deployed to thwart any untoward incident.

In view of the recent terror attack on the Indian Institute of Science, all the key installations in the city will also be under the hawk-eyed vigil of the police, he said.

Though there were no specific inputs on any planned attack, the police machinery in the city were totally geared to disrupt any subversive activities, he said.

Meanwhile, police issued instructions to public against carrying any inflammable items and bags to the parade ground.
