Security in J&K beefed up ahead of Republic Day

Jammu and Kashmir police has decided to step-up security arrangements in the valley to foil any attempt by terrorists to disrupt the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations in the Valley.

Security forces and police contingents would be deployed in strength at vulnerable places to foil any subversive attempt, it was decided at a meeting of security agencies with Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, K Rajendra Kumar in chair.

The main Republic Day function will be held at Bakshi stadium in central Srinagar and terrorists have threatened to disrupt the function and called for observance of strike on the day, official sources said.

Kumar called upon the security officers to exercise extra care and maintain close cooperation between various security agencies at all levels so that the Republic Day celebrations are held in a befitting manner.

Among others who attended the meeting included Inspector Generals of CRPF, A P Mashwari and SS Sindhu and senior officers of BSF and local police.
