The benchmark Sensex ended higher by about 2.61 per cent, the biggest gain in last six weeks, on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Thursday on brisk buying by funds amid brokers winding up their pending positions.

The 30-share index, Sensex, which rose by over 186 points in previous trade, continued to surge and closed at 13,487.16, up by 305.82 points, on the back of a rally in banking shares led by ICICI Bank, as it raised interest rates and as some investors expected the pace of bank loan growth to continue.
Such big gains have not been seen since October 27.
The National Stock Exchange index, Nifty, advanced by 77.85 points, or 2.07 per cent at 3843.05, after touching the day's high of 3855.05 points.
