Sensex recovers 66 pts in early trade

The benchmark index recovers on fresh buying by funds and general investors in blue-chip stocks.

The benchmark sensex recovered by over 66 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Thursday on fresh buying by funds and general investors in blue-chip stocks, on expectations of strong second quarter earnings.

The market was back in firm mode ahead of the announcement of results by market majors like Reliance Industries, Larsen and Toubro and Grasim, placing the Sensex higher by 66.72 points at 12,924.80 in the first five minutes of trade.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index, Nifty, was up by 16.30 points at 3726.95.

The BSE-30 share index, which had lost over 25 points on Wednesday, was up by 66.72 points at 12,924.80 points on the back of buying in the first five minutes of trade.

The major gainers were Grasim Industries, Larsen and Toubro, Dr Reddy's, HDFC, Wipro, Tata Motors, BHEL, TCS and Infosys Technologies.
