The pressure of the flow was such that the sewage water reached Shivaji Chowk and formed a pool there, where there has been no rain since two days.

The KDMC had spent Rs 64 lakh on the monsoon preparation, which includes cleaning of big and small nullahs in Kalyan and Dombivli city.

“I have ordered an inquiry into the incident and have asked the officers for a report. Strong action will be taken against the officer found responsible for this,” said Ramnath Sonawane, commissioner, KDMC.

“It is an every-year practice. The corporator, officer and contractor pocket 60 to 70 % of the allocated money in the name of monsoon preparedness. The commissioner should blacklist the contractor immediately and take strong action against the ward officer, who has to supervise the work but gave wrong report on nullah cleaning,” said social activist Siddharth Kamble.
