SHAGGY (A new technique of weaving) has emerged as the latest trend in carpet industry and is drawing more foreign exchange than any other popular variety of the industry. As per the manufacturers and exporters of carpets and other items, shaggy is the latest favorite of foreign buyers and has 5 to 10 percent share in the total export. Bhadohi is known for hand-woven shaggy whereas manufacturers of Panipat are using machines to manufacture this variety.

“Though this item is exported all over the globe, buyers of European countries such as Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, New Zealand, Netherlands, Turkey, Italy and Greece are showing much interest in this particular art of weaving”, said Jameel Ahmad, production manager of Bokhara Palace, a leading manufacturer and exporter of Bhadohi.
