According to the police, Nilesh Pendharkar was returning to his shop, Rajesh Masala, in Nirmal Nagar after lunch, when the three persons cornered him near a medical store.
The four were arguing, when suddenly one of them stabbed Pendharkar behind his neck, killing him on the spot, an eyewitness told the police. However, the trio fled before anyone could react.
“He was stabbed with a sharp instrument like a koyta or chopper,” said Senior Inspector P.B. Bodade of the Nirmal Nagar police. His body has been sent for a posr-mortem to Bhabha Hospita in Bandra.
The police believe that Pendharkar may have been murdered due to a previous enmity. “In 2005, a case was registered against him for rioting,” said Bodade. “We have recorded the statements of the family and eyewitnesses and are preparing sketches.” Pendharkar is survived by his wife, one-year-old daughter and aged mother.
