KATHAK EXPONENT Padmashree Shovana Narayan today enthralled students of Patel College of Science and Technology and later in the evening inmates of the SOS Children’s Village with her performance.

Narayan’s performances were held under the Fest 2006 series of SPICMACAY.Shovana Narayan, who along with her passion of dance holds the important position of the Director General of Audits and Accounts in the Government of India began the programme at the Patel College by with explaining the origin of Kathak dance style, the costume and the role of saying a story by abhinaya and verses separately and together.

She also gave an interesting presentation of sounds of nature, and so apt was her description that students immediately guessed what she was trying to portray. She said dance was present in everybody and everyday life.

Kathak brings alive these everyday happenings with grace and beauty and tells the story of life. Her performance was a unique combination of abhinaya, dance and expression.

She depicted anecdotes from the Ramayana- Sita Swamvara, and the story of prince Siddhartha’s transition from a warrior king to Buddha – ‘Budhham Sharnam Gachhami’.

The instantaneous hearty response of students negated the perception that classical music and art forms were not liked by the youth of today.

Shovana Narayan’s interactive performance connected students to artist and her medium in no time. The concert was attended by chairman of the National Institute of Technical Teacher’s Training and Research (NITTTR) Mahendra Singh Chauhan, General Secretary of Youth Congress Kamleshwar Patel, Chairperson of Patel College of Science and Technology Preeti Patel, National Executive of SPICMACAY Savita Raje and about 700 students of the institute.

In the evening, Shovana Narayan performed at the SOS Balgram, Piplani and enthralled the inmates here too.
