"China, India and Russia are big countries. The three parties work together to maintain the peace and stability and cooperation in the region. We share common interests," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told reporters in Beijing.

He noted that regular meetings of the Foreign Ministers of the three countries have helped promote in-depth exchange of views on issues of common interest and step up cooperation.

"This serves the interests of the three parties and peace and stability of the region and the world," Qin said on the trilateral mechanism.

The last meeting of the Foreign Ministers of India, China and Russia took place in June, 2005 in the Russian city of Vladivostok.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, currently visiting China, held talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, agreeing to cement their strategic ties and inking 15 agreements, including three major deals on hydrocarbons.
