The directorate has also sought information from all seven medical colleges of the State to inform about research projects completed. It has also directed the medical colleges to state the reasons if no research projects were taken up during the past four years (from 2003 to 2006).

Medical and Health Education director Kamal Sahni said that medical colleges were asked to submit a comprehensive report on research taken up in connection with fatal diseases for initiating preventive and curative methods. She said that after the reports were received from medical colleges, a definite research policy at the State level would be evolved for promoting necessary research activities.

Dr Sahni said the planning department under the medical and health department was seriously concerned about research work. It wanted to identity hurdles in carrying out research programs so that useful medical research could be promoted.

Dr Sahni further said medical research should be based on demographic and geographical surroundings, and help identify new virus.
