It was the first incident of firing of any kind after Indian and Pakistani army officers held a meeting in Poonch in September to defuse tension after heavy-cross border firing.

“An infiltration attempt was foiled in Krishan Ghati sector along LoC at about 3pm on Friday afternoon. Lance naik Govind Singh, who was seriously injured in the encounter with the infiltrators, succumbed to his injuries. The area is cordoned off and search operation is going on,” said SN Acharya, a defence spokesperson.

He said one terrorist was killed and his body has also been recovered, adding the operation was still on.
