THE MOTIVATION may not last for long but the visit of All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge for MP V Narayansamy has kept Congressmen and women busy over the past couple of days.
Following the workers’ convention at the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters on Saturday, conventions of party’s frontal organisations including the Youth Congress, Seva Dal and the NSUI was organised today. The State Mahila Congress also organised a seminar on ‘Steps taken by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government for empowerment of women’ on Saturday.
Speaking at the seminar, Narayansamy said UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was committed to meet all promises made to women and she kept reminding both the party and the Government about them. He further said National Social Welfare Board chairperson was a woman and more key positions would be given to women so that their representation in institutions working for empowerment of marginalised sections increased.
National Mahila Congress president Rita Joshi, Union Minister Suresh Pachauri, State Congress chief Subhash Yadav and leader of the Opposition in State Assembly Jamuna Devi also spoke on the occasion.
State Mahila Congress president Shobha Oza welcomed the guests. At the State Youth Congress (YC) convention held in T T Nagar Community hall today Narayansamy called upon Youth Congress (YC) activists to gear up take on the militant saffron outfits like Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Shiv Sena. He said the YC should maintain pressure on the State Government to check alleged violence against the minorities.
State Youth Congress president Meenakshi Natrajan presided over the function. AICC secretary in-charge for MP Arun Kumar, State Congress chief Subhash Yadav, leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Jamna Devi, former minister Ajay Singh and Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria were also present at the convention.
The convention of Seva Dal and NSUI were also held in the evening. Narayansamy was scheduled to have a meeting with PCC (minorities cell) office-bearers at the residence of PCC (minorities cell) president Syed Sajid Ali later tonight.
