Ridiculing the beleaguered Jharkhand Chief Minister for seeking time to prove his majority, JMM supremo Sibu Soren on Wednesday demanded Arjun Munda resign immediately to escape the ignominy of defeat on the floor of the House.

"Munda should see the writing on the wall. After the resignation of four ministers, his Government has plunged into a minority. He should resign immediately," Soren told reporters at his residence, where he held a meeting with party MLAs to take stock of the developments in the State.

JMM has the largest number of 17 MLAs in the opposition UPA in the 82-member House.

Replying to questions, Soren said he was in constant touch with other UPA leaders, including RJD Chief Lalu Prasad and senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel.

He, however, parried questions on whether he was eyeing for chief ministership or if he would accept the post of deputy chief minister as a compromise formula to keep in good humour the party legislators who were said to be exerting pressure on him to become chief minister.

The name of Soren's son Durga is doing rounds for the post of deputy CM.

Replying to a volley of questions, he said since his party was part of UPA, everything would depend on the decision of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
