SP activists go berserk at IT office

Income-Tax department's query from superstar Amitabh Bachchan on the purchase of sunglasses proved costly to the department here today after Samajwadi Party Yuvjan Sabha leaders and activists went berserk and damaged the IT Commissioner's car, broke flower pots and pulled down the name plates of some officials. They also allegedly used unparliamentary language and raised slogans against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, PM Man Mohan Singh and the Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

Angered over the sudden invasion in their office IT employees allegedly retaliated by hurling stones at the agitationists.

This reportedly led to injuries to five persons including the district president of Yuvjan Sabha Ravindra Yadav.

Meanwhile, police reached the spot after being informed about the incident by the IT office and started investigation. However, by this time most of the agitators had disappeared from the scene. Police said action will be taken against those who went berserk in the IT office. However, some IT employees laughed over the police claim of action as those involved in the incident were all Samajwadi Party workers. They had all come here under a well planned strategy to show their solidarity with the superstar who is associated with their party leader and CM Mulayam Singh, said an employee on condition of anonymity.

They could have protested outside the office but they came in and went wild on the campus. No office would tolerate such intrusion. He, however, denied that people from his office were involved in hurling stones.

Earlier, the activists had assembled at the Subhash crossing in Civil Lines and marched upto the IT office building. Instead of going straight to the IT office they started burning the effigy of leaders in front of the Customs office which is also located in the same premises. Later they shifted their demonstration to the rear side of this office in front of the IT department after being told by the security officer about the mistake they were committing.

Meanwhile, a Samajwadi Party leader KK Srivastava denied the hand of party activists in this incident. They were all fans of Amitabh Bachchan and were upset over the harassment of superstar by the IT department, he said.
