Former mayor and BJP leader Rajendra Sharma said the slaughterhouse should be shifted to Saifai. He said the municipal corporation had dropped the construction of new slaughterhouse during his tenure and SP leaders were unnecessarily trying to revive a dead issue. Samajwadi Party leader Shivaji Shukla said here that the BJP leader were unnecessarily making hue and cry over the issue. He claimed that the then BJP-led Union government had allocated Rs 6 crore for construction of the new slaughterhouse.

Meanwhile, party activists here constituted a committee to welcome the Urban Development Minister and convened a meeting of the members to chalk out the strategy for success of the programme.

Shivaji Shukla said Khan had chosen June 2 for laying the foundation stone. He claimed that Khan would participate in the workers meeting and would lay the foundation stone of a sever line at Betiahata and slaughterhouse at Mahewa mandi. Accusing BJP leaders of inciting communal tension in the city, SP leader Vindhyavasini Jaiswal said the municipal corporation board had formed a committee to identify the land.

The committee submitted its report to the municipal corporation and suggested Mahewa Mandi site. District unit president of SP Chandrabali Yadav, secretary Rajnish Yadav and general secretary Krishna Kumar Tripathi said that SP activists would give a befitting reply to the forces opposing the slaughterhouse construction.
