The match was scheduled for Tuesday, but as the state government cancelled the ground’s booking, it has now been shifted to Mumbai. Activist of the BJYM burned the effigy of Sports Minister RK Chowdhary at the Parade crossing. The agitators also labeled the sports minister as inept for the post.

The enraged members of BJYM stated that the minister’s lack of awareness about the cancellation of the ground’s booking by the state government is enough to prove his inefficiency.

Speaking on the occasion District President of the BJYM Srikrishna Dixit demanded, “The state government must give reasons behind the cancellation of ground’s booking.”

“This is not the first incident when national and international matches allotted to the state have been cancelled because of the state government,” added Dixit.
Earlier, the one-day International match between India and South Africa, which was allotted to Kanpur, was shifted to Ahmedabad, pointed out Dixit.

The agitators also criticised the suspension of Regional Sports Officer of Kanpur Brijendra Kumar and Joint Sports Officer VS Chauhan by the state government.
District co-ordinator of the Youth and Sports cell of the BJP Amit Malhotra also criticised the state government and accused it of working against the interest of sportsmen of the state.

Malhotra also asserted that the cancellation of the one-day International at Green Park between India and South Africa was an insult for all the sportsmen of the city. He warned that if such instances were repeated then a statewide agitation would be launched against the state government.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Shambhu Nath Mishra, Sunil Sonkar, Ashu Nigam, Sunil Sahu, Alok Nigam and others.
