"He was on deputation to SAI for four-five years. We received a communication from the sports ministry on Tuesday to repatriate him to DOPT (department of personnel and training) for further repatriation," Jhanja Tripathy, SAI's executive director of finance and personnel, told IANS.

"The order was issued today," she said, but did not specify the reasons for Sinha's sudden removal.

It means that Tuesday was the last day at his Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium office for Sinha, a Haryana cadre Indian Police Service officer of the 1986 batch.

Asked if the preparations for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games would be affected by Sinha's sudden removal, Tripathy said he was not involved in any "decision-making" processes.
