Spurt in NLFT activities ahead of poll

National Liberation Front of Tripura on Tuesday attacked a BSF convoy, kidnapped two CPI(M) men and killed another in a jungle.

There was a spurt in activities of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura ahead of Assembly poll with a BSF convoy attacked, two CPI(M) supporters kidnapped and the body of another left in a jungle on Tuesday morning.

The NLFT cadres, targeted the BSF convoy hurling two grenades injuring four securitymen at forested Gulsingbari in the jurisdiction of champahaor police station in west Tripura, the police said.

The BSF and the local police were searching for the assailants, who melted away immediately after the attack, the sources said.

The four, who were injured critically, were admitted to the GB hospital here.

In another incident, the NLFT kidnapped two CPI(M) supporters at gunpoint on Tuesday morning from Shambhucharanpara in Jirania police station area of the same district, the sources said.

The body of another CPI(M) supporter, Jayanta Debbarma, kidnapped by the NLFT earlier from Mehendi village under Salema police station of Dhalai district, was also recovered on Tuesday morning from a nearby jungle, the sources added.
